Short answer

For most people, February to April and September to November are the most comfortable months for a yoga retreat in Rishikesh: mild days, cool mornings, and good conditions for outdoor practice.

Season by season

Spring (February–April). Temperatures rise gradually, days are clear, and mornings are comfortable for asana and pranayama. It is a popular time, so book early.

Summer (May–June). Heat arrives. Practise early in the morning and plan rest in the afternoon.

Monsoon (July–early September). Heavy rain, green hills and fewer visitors. River activities such as rafting are typically paused for safety, and travel can be affected by landslides on hill roads. It suits quiet, indoor-focused practice.

Autumn (September–November). Skies clear after the monsoon and mornings and evenings turn cool. Another favourite window for retreats.

Winter (December–January). Cold mornings and nights with sunny days. Bring warm layers; it is a good season for silence and meditation-focused programmes.

Which retreat length fits your plans

How to choose your dates

  1. Decide what you want (rest, weight management, detox, stress relief) and how many days you can commit.
  2. Match the season to your tolerance for heat, cold or rain.
  3. Plan travel to Dehradun's Jolly Grant airport, or to the Haridwar or Rishikesh railway stations, and add buffer days for hill-road delays.
  4. Ask the retreat what is included and what the check-in times are, then confirm your dates through the enquiry form.

Frequently asked questions

Is the monsoon a bad time for a yoga retreat?

Not necessarily. It is quieter and green, but expect rain and possible travel delays, and some outdoor activities may be paused.

What should I pack?

Light cotton clothing for warm months, warm layers for winter, comfortable yoga clothes and a reusable water bottle.
